The boxer went to ground and prostrated before the President at a diaspora event in the United Kingdom.
Unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua made a very humble gesture when he met Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari.
President Buhari is currently in London to attend the first UK-Africa Investment Summit, which starts today, Monday, 20 January, 2020.
“Even though I run my own track in boxing, your Excellency, it's amazing to sit amongst the great people of Nigeria and to listen to some of your achievements and the vision you have for Nigeria makes us proud,” Joshua told the gathering.
The 30-year-old, who is of Nigerian descent, then presented his IBF, WBO, WBA heavyweight belts to Buhari.
Meanwhile, Joshua’s gesture has sparked divided opinions among some Nigerians on social media.
However, responding to this on his Instagram story, the boxer wrote: "It's not about politics. It's about culture and respect for our elders."
