5 top GFA officials caught in the Anas exposé

The Number 12 investigative piece which was carried out by award winning undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas into Ghana football shook the foundation of the beautiful game in the country.

The GFA president at the time Kwesi Nyantakyi and among several other sports officials were caught on camera receiving monies suspected to be a bribe.

The expose’ prompted calls for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to be dissolved.

FIFA had to step in to salvage the situation, which led to the formation of the FIFA Normalisation Committee to run Ghana football for a six months period.

Below is a list of the five top GFA officials who were captured on in the Number 12 football scandal.

Kwesi Nyantakyi

The former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was at the centre of the scandal that rocked Ghana football.

Nyantakyi and other football officials were caught on camera receiving monies suspected to be bribe. He was handed a 90-day suspension by FIFA, which was followed by a lifetime ban from all football related activities.

The Anas expose’ ended the illustrious career of the Ghanaian lawyer who rose through the ranks of Ghana football to assume the position of the 1st Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and also served on the FIFA Executive council

Sannie Daara

 The GFA spokesperson was caught on camera ordering his aide to receive an amount of GHC4,000, suspected to be bribe from a Tiger Eye PI agent to influence the call-up of Thomas Abbey to the Black Stars.

Abbey was the best player on the local scene, scoring 14 goals to be the third top scorer in the Ghana Premier League, despite playing as a winger.

But, local players hardly earn a place in the senior national football team, so the motivation to entice Sannie Daara to influence his call-up.

Leanier Addy

She comprised herself by receiving a bribe of GHC 300 Ghana in the Anas exposé.

Highly respected member of the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had his image dented when he received a bribe of GHC300 presented to her by an agent of Tiger Eye PI.

It would be recalled that the Tiger PI agent posed himself as a team official and gave the then chairperson of the Black Queens GHC3,00 when discharging her duties as a Match Commissioner.

She was the only woman on the powerful Ghana Football Association Executive Committee, which was the highest decision-making body of the GFA.

Abdulai Alhassan

The chairman of the Northern Regional Football Association (GFA) was the right-hand man of former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Alhassan was the one who arranged the meeting between Kwesi Nyantakyi and the Tiger Eye PI’s agent who posed himself as a sheikh for the mega Ghana Premier League (GPL) sponsorship deal.

Abdulai was caught scheming with the GFA president to pocket 25% of the sponsorship deal.

He resigned as the chairman of the Northern Regional Football Association after Anas exposé.

Eddie Doku

He was seen on video collecting money allegedly to influence the technical handlers of the Black Stars B into giving Patrick Razak, who was a player of Hearts of Oak enough playing time. The explosive Anas football corruption video stunned the nation and prompted calls for the GFA president to resign and the association disbanded and rebuilt.
