Karela 0-1 Kotoko - Opoku Mensah gives Porcupine Warriors the edge at Akoon Park

The Porcupine Warriors have moved top of the Ghana Premier league leaders after claiming victory over Karela United in week 13.

Opoku Mensah

William Opoku Mensah returned to haunt his former club by scoring the only goal as Asante Kotoko pipped Karela United 1-0 at the Akoon Park on Friday afternoon.

The goal separated the two sides at Tarkwa as Kotoko have jumped to the summit of the log following the win.

The Porcupine Warriors were ahead inside four minutes - Opoku Mensah got on the end of a threaded pass from captain Emmanuel Gyamfi into the Karela box and expertly tucked home to give Kotoko an early lead.

Karela United tried as much as they can to restore parity but to no avail as Kotoko run away with the three points.

Contract rebel Songe Yacouba came on to play 18 minutes of the match for Maxwell Konadu's side. The Burkinabe striker had been out of the team since matchday 5 due to contract issues.

Asante Kotoko next face Elmina Sharks while Karela United travel to Dawu to lock horns with Dreams FC at the Theatre of Dreams.
