President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi has ridiculed the ambition of FIFA presidential candidate Tokyo Sexwale.
Kwesi Nyantakyi ridicules Sexwale’s FIFA presidential ambitions
"You can read from them that some are very serious about their bid and others are just walking through – just like Tokyo Sexwale." - Kwesi Nyantakyi on Tokyo Sexwale
The GFA boss claimed Tokyo Sexwale is just walking through and even backed himself as more competent than the South African.
Sexwale, who was a political prisoner at Robben Islands alongside former South African president and African legend Nelson Mandela will be going up against FIFA vice-president Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein, Jerome Champagne and Gianni Infantino to succeed the banned Sepp Blatter.
Kwesi Nyantakyi told Accra based Happy FM:
“Sleeping in the same prison room with Nelson Mandela is not enough to win the FIFA presidency.
“We have listened to all the candidates and we know what each of them is bringing on board and who shares in our vision.
“You can read from them that some are very serious about their bid and others are just walking through – just like Tokyo Sexwale.
“He came to one of our executive committee meetings at CAF and all his campaign messages were just that: ‘I was the rugby secretary at Robben Island, I was the chairman of the football team at Robben Island, I slept in the same room with Mandela at Robben Island and so on.
“It is almost funny. Those things are not enough to win you the FIFA presidency. As for Sexwale, I can say I’m even experienced and competent than him.”
The FIFA presidential elections will take place on Friday, February 26, 2016.
