U23 AFCON: Black Meteors beat Mali 2-0 to qualify for semis

The Black Meteors of Ghana beat Mali by 2-0 in the ongoing U23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt to book a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

The Meteors were on the verge of being knocked out of the competition after losing to host country, Egypt on Monday night.

But coach Ibrahim Tanko’s boys lived up to expectation by scoring two second half goals to qualify as the second-placed team in Group B.

Egypt were first in the group with 9 points, as they won all their matches. Ghana came second after beating Cameroon on goal difference.

The Meteors and Cameroon had 4 points each in the group but Ghana qualified by a better goal difference.

Kwabena Owusu came from the bench in the second half to score Ghana’s two goals. In the other Group B match, Egypt beat Cameroon by 2-1.

The Black Meteors have to win their semi-final match to book a place for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan in 2020.
