Atletico midfielder makes appearance in defeat against Barcelona

Thomas Teye Partey played a part for Atletico Madrid in their 2-1 defeat against Barcelona in the Spanish La Liga on Saturday

Ghanaian player Thomas Teye Partey made an appearance for Atletico Madrid in their away game against FC Barcelona on Saturday at the Camp Nou. The midfielder came in as a replacement for the injured Augusto Fernandez when his Atletico side were already down to ten men.

Diego Simeone’s side started the game on the right foot against Luis Enrique’s Barcelona who were playing at home. Koke scored the opening goal for Atletico Madrid after 10 minutes of play with his side coming close to finding the back of the net again with some great chances.

Lionel Messi punished Atletico for the lost chances and put his Barcelona side level, scoring the equalizer on the half hour mark.

Luis Suarez shrug off his opponents in superb style before scoring to put Barcelona 2-1 up against Atletico Madrid. Former Chelsea player Filipe Luis was sent off moments before the first half interval for a reckless challenge on World Player of the Year Lionel Messi.

Atletico were reduced further down after the break with Diego Godin getting a sending off for a second bookable offence but Barcelona were unable to add to their goal tally as the game ended with a 2-1 scoreline.

Thomas Teye Partey who helped his side to stop Barcelona from scoring more goals after he came on received a yellow card booking for the 14 minutes he played.

The win keeps Barcelona on top of the La Liga table, three points above their match day opponents Atletico Madrid.
