Top seed Van Gerwen needed a final-set tie-break to beat outside Rene Eidams in the first round, but registered a commanding straight-sets win over Webster, averaging 109.23 - the fourth highest average in the tournament's history.

The win means he will face countryman Raymond van Barneveld in the last 16.

Five-time world champion Van Barneveld was taken all the way in a seven-set thriller against Stephen Bunting before holding his nerve to advance 4-3.

Vincent van der Voort earlier battled back from two sets down to see off Kyle Anderson 4-2 after Benito van de Pas got the better of Dimitri Van den Bergh by the same margin.
