Egypt triumphed over Ghana thanks to a powerful free-kick scored by Mohamed Salah. The result meant that the Pharaohs finished top of group D, with the Black Stars finishing second.

Consequently, Ghana will face group C table-toppers DR Congo, while Egypt also face fellow North Africans Morocco in the quarter-final stage of the Africa Cup of Nations.

And though Avram Grant admits there are no easy games in the tournament, he does not see the loss against Egypt affecting his side when they play DR Congo on Sunday.

“I will say the two teams that qualified to the quarter-final [from group C] – Morocco and [DR] Congo – are good. And it will be a tough game anyway [which ever team we face],” the Israeli said after Ghana’s 1-0 loss to Egypt.

“And I hope the pitch will be better – I’m not sure about this. But of course the players [would] like to win, and I’m not happy that we didn’t win or even draw this game [against Egypt]. But I don’t think it will affect the quarter-final [match against DR Congo].”

The winner of the match between Ghana and Congo will proceed to the semi-finals to face either Cameroon or Senegal, who play each other in another quarter-final clash.

Other quarter-final pairings will see Burkina Faso take on Tunisia, while Egypt also face Morocco.
