16 players train as Black Stars prepare for Ethiopia game

Sixteen players were present as the Black Stars trained for the first time under Kwesi Appiah following his return

Sixteen Black Stars players converged at the Accra Sports Stadium to partake in the training session, which was supervised by the technical team.

Among those present were deputy Black Stars captain Andre Ayew and his brother Jordan Ayew.Afriyie Acquah, Majeed Waris and Daniel Amartey were also present as Kwesi Appiah supervised his first training session since returning to manage the West African nation.

Debutant Thomas Agyapong, returnee Rashid Sumaila and youngster Yaw Yeboah were also joined by a quartet from the local league led by Liberty Professionals captain Samuel Sarfo and Hearts of Oak’s Winful Cobbinah.

The players were taken through some drills and jogging exercises by first assistant coach of the Black Stars, Ibrahim Tanko, as Kwesi Appiah and technical coordinator Stephen Appiah watched on.

The team was later split into two factions to play in a six-aside game.

Newly appointed goalkeepers trainer, Richard ‘Olele’ Kingston was also present, as he took charge of training the goalkeepers who had reported. Asante Kotoko’s Felix Annan, Wa All Stars’ Richrd Ofori and Aduana’s Joseph Addo were taken through some stretches by the former national no.1.

However, notable among the absent players were Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, Adam Larsen Kwarasay and Afful Harrisson.

The entire technical team – with the exception of Maxwell Konadu – was present as the Black Stars prepare to kickstart their journey to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Ghana has been drawn in group F with Kenya, Sierra Leone and Ethiopia for a place in Africa’s flagship tournament.

The Black Stars will train again on Thursday and Friday before heading to Kumasi for their final preparations.

Ghana is scheduled to face Ethiopia on June 8.
