AFCON 2019: Jordan Ayew is joint top scorer after the group stage
The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations has witnessed a total of 68 goals after 36 games played an average of 1.89 goals.
However, just 56 of the 552 players participating in the continent’s showpiece have hit the back of the net, which is 10.1%.
11 of the 52 scorers in the AFCON 2019 have registered two goals each after the group stage, which Jordan Ayew happens to be part.
The Crystal Palace striker scored his first goal in this edition of the AFCON against Benin.
Before he scored the first of Ghana’s two goals against Guinea Bissau, which assisted the Black Stars to finish top of Group F.
Jordan Ayew seems to be emerging as a prolific goal scorer because in three different Africa Cup of Nations, he had scored two goals.
But in just three games this year, Ayew has equalled his tally in three tournaments.
The former Aston Villa forward will be hoping to continue his goal scoring form and perhaps take the lead in the race for the top scorer’s award when Ghana face Tunisia on Monday.
Jordan Ayew will, however, face stiff opposition from the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, who also two goals apiece.
