Sadio Mane’s penalty miss sends favourites Senegal packing

The high fancied Senegal were kicked out of the 2017 AFCON by rivals Cameroon, 5-4 on penalties, after 90 minutes of regulation time and  additional 30 minutes ended with both sides failing to break the deadlock.

Sanio Mane’s penalty missed in the penalty shootout, as Cameroon defeated Senegal 5-4 on penalties to send the highest ranked nation in the FIFA ranking from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in the quarter finals on Saturday.

In the first half Senegal dominated play and created a lot of chances, yet Biram Diop, Koyate, fluffed them.

Back from the break, the game became an end to end action, with both sides creating some decent goalscoring opportunities, yet the wasted them.

Benjamin Moukandjo came close to opening the scoring, but Diallo did well to block his point blank shot and Moussa Sow was also a victim of near miss after coming on in the second half.

The game was thrown into extra time and once again these two giants battled it out without finding the back of the net, as the Collins Fai failed to beat Diallo on a one on one situation and Saliou Ciss also couldn't put Senegal in the driving seat.

During the penalty shootout both sides scored their first four kicks, but Sadio Mane, the star man of Sengal saw his kick saved by 21-year-old Fabrice Ondoa goalkeeper, before Vincent Aboubakar scored the last kick for Cameroon to send them through to the semi-finals.
