First batch of HomeKit devices are coming next month
Although reports that the first smart-home gadgets which are powered by Apple’s HomeKit wouldn’t be ready until August or September have been making the rounds, this does not seem to be the case.
According to the Wall Street Journal, an Apple spokeswoman said, "HomeKit has been available for just a few months and we already have dozens of partners who have committed to bringing HomeKit accessories to market and we’re looking forward to the first ones coming next month," in response to the rumors.
Most of the outlets that reported that the HomeKit system would be delayed have since updated and corrected their stories to say that only “some devices” have been delayed.
Since it announced HomeKit almost a year ago, Apple has never officially set a release date for the first HomeKit devices, although reports suggested the first batch would come out around this time. The new timing could mean Apple makes an announcement about the platform at Worldwide Developers Conference, set for June 8th.
