Lagos trader arraigned for beating up police officer
Femi Oyekunle, a 33-year-old Lagos based trader, will face the full weight of the law if he is found guilty for beating up a police officer after he was dragged before an Apapa Magistrate's Court.
Oyekunle, a resident of Ajegunle area of state, is being charged with a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful assault.
According to the prosecutor in the case, ASP Soji Ojaokomo, Oyekunle took the laws into his hands when the officer, Owoeye Dada, while on duty, tried to intervene and settle an argument between the suspect and an woman at Awodi-Ora Estate in Ajegunle on April 16, 2015.
Ojaokomo told the court:
"The complainant said he was trying to settle an argument between the accused and one Alhaja when Oyekunle, with another man still at large, assaulted him."
The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravened Sections 171 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
But the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and Senior Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya admitted him to bail in the sum of N 20,000 with one surety in like sum while the case was adjourned to May 13.
