The Electoral Commission (EC) has set March 11, 2017 to hold the outstanding District and Unite Committee Elections which were postponed in September 2015.
A statement signed by the EC’s Head of Communication, Eric Dzakpasu, gave the names of the regions, districts and electoral areas in which the elections will be held as Nkoranza North and South Districts of the Brong-Ahafo Region; Dichemso Electoral Area/Unit in the Manyhia Sub-Metro of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly in the Ashanti Region and Agbonyra Electoral Area in the Afadjato South District of the Volta Region.
"The Commission will be accepting completed nomination forms from prospective candidates for the elections from Tuesday, 14 February, 2017 to Monday, 20 February, 2017,” it added.
It will be recalled that in September 2016, a Sekondi High Court placed an injunction on the district assembly elections at West Tanokrom in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis in the Western region.
Also in Odumase-Krobo, a Koforidua High Court granted an injunction barring the EC from conducting the assembly elections in the Akuse-Natriku electoral area.
The injunction was granted following an application by Kloma Gbi (a Krobo youth advocacy group) and one Sakitey Asare, a concerned citizen of the area who are jointly contesting the placement of the Akuse-Natriku electoral area under the Shai Osudoku District of the Greater Accra region instead of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern region.
