Australia went down 87-61 to Serbia in the final four on Friday, cheered on by a host of their compatriots who have been competing at Rio 2016.

However, their presence at the Carioca Arena raised the suspicions of tournament organisers, with the athletes moved from the sporting venue to the Olympic Park police station.

Investigations went on into the small hours of the morning, where the group were found to have falsified documents and threatened with jail.

However, the athletes were permitted to pay the fine, which will be covered in each instance by the Australian Olympic Committee, before being allowed back to the Athletes' Village at 0530 am local time.
