Bangladesh hammered the United Arab Emirates by 51 runs to kick-start their Asia Cup campaign on home soil after skittling their opponents out for only 82 in Mirpur on Friday.

The Tigers were in desperate need of a win after being soundly beaten by India in the opening game of the tournament and got up and running courtesy of an impressive all-round bowling display and some poor UAE batting.

Bangladesh's shortcomings with the bat were also in evidence as they collapsed from 72-1 to post 133-8, Mohammad Mithun (47) and man-of-the-match Mahmudullah (36 not out) the only batsman to make notable contributions.

But UAE were comprehensively bowled out with 14 balls to spare after only losing to Sri Lanka by 14 runs in an encouraging first Asia Cup game on Thursday.

Mithun and Soumya Sarkar got the hosts off to a good start after they were put in to bat by UAE captain Amjad Javed, but wickets fell at regular intervals to stall their progress.

Opener Mithun cleared the ropes twice in his 41-ball knock and Mahmudullah added some important runs at number six, with Mohammad Naveed (2-12) and Amjad Javed (2-34) impressive with the ball once again.

UAE never looked like getting home and were 34-5 after Mustafizur Rahman (2-13) struck twice in as many balls in the eighth over, with Muhammad Usman's top score of 30 in vain.

Mustafizur Rahman (2-13), Shakib Al Hasan (2-20) and Mahmudullah (2-5) also made an impact with the ball.
