The Chicago Bears scooped up veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer once the NFL Draft ended.

With quarterback destinations drying up, Brian Hoyer has signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, general manager Ryan Pace announced on Saturday following the NFL Draft.

Hoyer, 30, was let go by the Houston Texans after their AFC wild-card loss to the Kansas Chiefs.

In Chicago he will likely be placed behind starter Jay Cutler.

"We're fired up about that," Pace said of signing Hoyer. "When he's played he's been productive."

Hoyer had visited with the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets, but Denver drafted Memphis' Paxton Lynch in the first round of the draft on Thursday and the Jets seem determined to come to an agreement with incumbent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The Jets also drafted Christian Hackenberg in Friday's second round.

Since 2009, Hoyer has started 26 games and thrown for 38 touchdowns.

He spent three seasons with the New England Patriots and had stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals and two seasons with the Cleveland Browns before going to the Texans for the 2015 campaign.
