Benfica said earlier in the day that Spurs will pay three million euros ($3.52 million dollars) for the loan, and will have an option to buy the 25-year-old forward for 45 million euros at the end of the season.

"We are delighted to announce the signing of striker Carlos Vinicius on a season-long loan from Benfica," said Tottenham in a statement.

Vinicius arrived at Benfica from Napoli, where he never played a competitive game, in July 2019 and finished top scorer in the Portuguese league last season with 18 goals.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho was keen to bring in a striker to ease the burden on Harry Kane, who has featured in all seven of his side's games so far this season.
