Crew SC are closing in on Black Stars defender Jonathan Mensah, a Major League Soccer source confirmed on Friday to The Dispatch.

According to the reports he is to join Columbus Crew from Anzhi Makhachkala at an undisclosed fee and the official announcement is expected in the course of the week.

The Crew will acquire Mensah from Anzhi Makhachkala of the Russian Premier League for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Mensah, 26 spent five years with the French club Evian, before moving to the Russian giants Anzhi Makhachkala last year

He made 15 appearances on loan with Granada of Spain’s La Liga during the 2010-11 season after spending 2008-09 with the Free State Stars of South Africa’s Premier Soccer League. And he has appeared in two World Cups — 2010 and ’14 — with Ghana.

The Crew’s other designated player is midfielder Federico Higuain, who has been with the team since 2012.
