Pressure on Kwesi Appiah to succeed – Kwabena Yeboah

Appiah was appointed as Ghana coach on Monday after penning a two-year deal, succeeding Avram Grant who resigned from the post in February.

The Al Khartoum boss returns at a time when the Black Stars are facing dwindling fortunes, with squad depth a major problem.

And Kwabena Yeboah believes expectations from the Ghanaian public could put Appiah under pressure.

“The fans are also not happy with the team’s performances of late and the fact that people are waiting to see whether he would succeed or not will put him under enormous pressure,” the SWAG president is quoted as saying by the GNA.

According to him, it high time local coaches got the necessary support when managing the Black Stars.

Kwesi Appiah was in charge of the Black Stars from 2012 to 2014, but was sacked after the team failed to perform at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

He also led Ghana to a 4th place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa four years ago.

The former Ghana U-23 coach is scheduled to officially start work on May 1.
