Blackhawks extend GM Stan Bowman's contract
The Chicago Blackhawks have extended the contract of senior vice president and general manager Stan Bowman.
Bowman has put pen to paper on a three-year extension that will see him remain in the post through the 2020-21 season.
The Blackhawks were 48 years removed from their last Stanley Cup title when Bowman took over as GM back in July 2009.
Since then, they have become the NHL's most dominant franchise, winning the Cup in three of the last six seasons.
"I am proud of how much Stan and his staff have accomplished and have great confidence in his leadership as our organisation continues to strive for consistent excellence," president and CEO John McDonough said in a press release.
"Under Stan's guidance, our hockey operations department is strong across all levels, including scouting, player evaluation and development, and salary cap management.
"He has created a sound structure that Blackhawks fans can be excited about for many years to come."
Bowman's contract had been set to expire following this season, but there was no chance the Blackhawks would let him walk.
Still just 42, Bowman - the son of Hall of Fame coach and Blackhawks senior advisor Scotty Bowman - and head coach Joel Quenneville have built a dynasty at United Center.
