But some accounts have started offering attractive interest rates if you meet the bank's rules like paying a certain amount into your account each month.
In recent years Bank of Africa(BOA) has offered attractive interest rates as a way to lure customers from rival banks.
According to the latest Bank of Ghana's average interest on deposits, BOA's interest rates are higher than the returns available on accounts in all banks across Ghana.
As at January 2018, BOA's average interest rates on deposits sat at 16.1 percent beating all competing brands.
India's international bank in Ghana; Bank of Baroda ranks second with a rate of 14.5 percent.
If you are looking for some good returns on your deposits Barclays Bank may not be too bad a choice with its 12.4 percent interest, however, BOA gives you a run for your money, that is according to the Bank of Ghana.
Standard Chartered Bank ranks last as the facility with the lowest interest on deposits at a percentage rate 5.4 percent.
