Nigerien and Chadian soldiers discovered the bodies, believed to belong to Boko Haram victims, near a bridge on the outskirts of the town, Reuters reports.

The bodies were almost fully decomposed suggesting that the murders had taken place a long time ago.

“Niger and Chad's troops have discovered a mass grave at Damasak, which appears to contain the bodies of Boko Haram's victims,” a military source, who chose to remain anonymous, said.

Damasak was captured by Boko Haram in November but was recovered by troops on Saturday, March 14.
