Eva-Maria Brem closed in on her first??FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup globe by winning Monday's giant slalom race in Jasna as??Lara Gut took over as the overall leader.

Brem mastered a tricky course in a race which was put back two days due to high winds in the Low Tatras mountains to extend her lead in the giant slalom standings to 52 points with just one event remaining in St Moritz.

The 27-year-old Austrian flew down in one minute??15.34 seconds in the opening run to hold an advantage of 0.74secs over Gut, with Federica Brignone third-fastest.

Viktoria Rebensburg clocked a blistering second run of??1:13.57, but her rival for the giant slalom title Brem was able to celebrate a third World Cup victory after going down in??1:15.26 to win by a margin of??0.27secs.

German Rebensburg finished second, with??Brignone dropping down a place to third and Gut 0.79secs off the pace in fourth.

Rebensburg is second in the giant slalom standings and??will need to maintain the high standards she set in the second run when she takes to the slopes of??St Moritz on March 20 and hope that Brem slips up.

Gut is unable to add a second giant slalom globe, but the overall title is the Swiss'??to lose after she moved ahead of Lindsey Vonn - ruled out for season due to a knee injury??- and leads third-placed??Rebensburg by 263 points.
