Brisbane Broncos defeat Canterbury Bulldogs in NRL

With two rounds of the regular season remaining, victory moves the Broncos up one place to fifth, two points behind the Bulldogs, who face sixth-placed North Queensland Cowboys next time out.

The Bulldogs hammered the Broncos 40-14 less than two months ago, but there was to be no repeat at Suncorp Stadium as the Broncos improved their home record to 8-3.

Excellent hands moved the ball from right to left for Tom Opacic to score for the Broncos in the 13th minute, before Brett Morris gathered a kick - initially missed by his brother Josh - to level for the visitors just prior to the half-hour.

But that was as good as it got for the Bulldogs, Ben Hunt claiming a fortunate ricochet from his own grubber to make it 10-4 on the stroke of half-time.

Sam Thaiday's score in the 57th minute extended the lead, with two Jordan Kahu penalties, either side of Sam Kasiano's consolation try for the Bulldogs, sealing an impressive win for the Broncos.
