Butler doesn't regret criticism of Bulls coach
Butler was critical of Hoiberg following back-to-back losses for the Bulls after Saturday's 107-91 defeat to the New York Knicks, claiming the "laid-back" coach was not leading the Bulls hard enough.
The All-Star guard spoke to reporters about his comments on Monday and insisted he had no regrets.
"[I was] a little frustrated after a loss, yeah, but then again, I put a lot of it on myself now because I gotta lead better, can't allow stuff to happen," Butler said.
"Yeah, we lost one I didn't want to lose at home against Detroit and the way that we lost against New York. You got raw emotion right then and there [after the Knicks game].
"I know that we have what it takes to win here. I mean, people are going to think what they want to think. People want me to lead, you take my leadership for what it is. Some people may like it, some people don"t. Money has absolutely nothing to do with it.
"I feel like I've been here long enough, I'm one of the so-called vets that I can't allow stuff to happen when I see it happen, so I put that on myself."
Butler, who signed a five-year deal worth $95million in the off-season, was also asked if he could fit into Hoiberg's system in Chicago.
"I think so. I have to be. Because he signed here for five years, I signed here for five years. We're going to be here, so I think we have to make it work. We have to make it work within this team. And I know that we will," said the 26-year-old.
"He's a hell of a coach, he's doing what's right, right now by everybody. And it's a learning curve for everybody. We're only, what, 25 games in? So we'll be all right."
The man at the centre of it all, Hoiberg - who replaced Tom Thibodeau ahead of the 2015-16 season - added: "Are there some things I can do better? Sure. Are there some things that all of us can do better? Absolutely. Are there some things I need to demand probably a little bit more? Sure. But it's something where I thought we made a lot of progress as a team.
"It's getting back to those things we demanded leading into that win streak. It's about staying consistent with that and continue to build off what made us a successful team that week."
