The opposition NPP has recently been witnessing some internal wrangling and other violent actions.

Earlier this year, there was an acid attack that claimed the life of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP, Adam Mahama .

There has also been the stabbing to death of NPP supporter Saddiq Abubakar at Asawase in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, following the suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko.

Addressing a crowd of NDC members in the Greater Accra Region, President Mahama said such attacks on fellow party people should not be tolerated.

“There is no room in the 21st century politics for acid bath.  That is why we must pray for peace for that party…we don’t want to see any more injuries.”

President Mahama who also urged his party supporters to pray for good health for their opponents.

“We are not campaigning on anybody’s health. Every day when you pray, pray for yourself, pray for your country and your opponent so that God gives us all good health to be able to go into 2016. And I will advise our opponents to also do likewise.”

President Mahama has also chastised Economist and Vice Presidential Candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for saying he is incompetent.

"I hear Bawumia say I'm incompetent yet he's never come close to what being a president is," the president said.

He further stressed he "will not allow useless insults to distract me."

But, in a response, the Deputy Director of Communications of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Anthony Karbo said the president must rather concentrate on fixing the economy, the high unemployment rate and the crippling power crisis in the country instead of making the violence in the NPP an issue.
