Transport fares: 'Machoman' demands GHp20 change from 'trotro mate'

A 15% increment in transport fares has not gone down well with passengers who have been at loggerheads with drivers and their conductors.

For regular trotro-boarding folks like myself, I have encountered many bus conductors commonly known as trotro 'mates' anytime transport fares goes up.

But the bellicose or stressed trotro mate is one you don’t want to mess with. They fight over everything, fight with everyone and takes offense easily.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has described the hikes in fares as "bad faith" since government was in discussion with stakeholders.

This was after government increased the prices of petroleum products to between 18 to 30% following the passage of the Energy Sector Levy (ESL) by Parliament in December 2015.
