The Australian boasts a two-point lead at the tournament, after scoring 10 points, recording six birdies and two bogeys, having eclipsed overnight leader Martin Laird.

Chalmers had a brilliant back nine where he picked up five of his six birdies to rocket into the lead.

Laird is equal second, having failed to register even half the points he did in round one as he finished with seven for the day.

He shares second spot with Gary Woodland, who might rue some poor shots at the end of his round as he bogeyed two of his last four holes.

Colt Knost sits on 21 points overall, three behind Chalmers, having scored eight for the day, with Brendan Steele a point further behind.

Jason Gore put in the best performance of the day as he recorded the highest score with 14 points, shooting a flawless round with seven birdies, enough to move him up 59 places on the leaderboard into a share of seventh place.
