WhatsApp to help prosecute people dumping rubbish

With the help of WhatsApp,the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), is stepping up its fight against indiscriminate dumping of waste.

The AMA is asking citizens to report people seen throwing garbage into drains by sharing pictures of them doing it via a special WhatsApp line they have introduced. The special WhatsApp line is 0207935381, Citi News reports.

The Assembly already has the sanitation court in place to prosecute individuals who do not adhere to sanitation laws, and have said they will continue to dredge major drains like the Korle Lagoon and the Odaw to prevent flooding and choking.
AMA Public Relations officer, Numo Blafo said the photos and location sent through the social media service will be used in court as evidence to prosecute rubbish dumpers.
