Former Hearts of Oak manager CK Akunnor has expressed his delight at having the chance to learn under Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

The 43-year-old spent some time with the coaching staff of the Scottish champions as part of an internship programme, following the end of the Ghana Premier League season.

CK Akunnor’s trip to the European nation was geared towards advancing his knowledge in current trends of the game.

He had the opportunity to be an understudy to Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, as well as bond with a couple of other coaches at the Glasgow giants.

Following his successful internship spell with the Scottish side, the ex-Black Stars captain was delighted with what he learnt during his stay.

According to him, the practical lessons he undertook will definitely come in handy in the course of his own coaching career.

CK Akunor told Asempa FM: “I can confidently tell you that I’m not the same with what I learnt from there and that is very important. I believe in practical more than the theoretical aspect.

“Now the important thing is that I will add the knowledge I acquired from there to what I have already, I will combine both because I have my own philosophy."

CK Akunnor guided Ashanti Gold to safety in the Ghana Premier League, despite taking over when the Obuasi-based club were rooted at the bottom half of the table.

His remarkable turnaround of the side has earned him plaudits from all angles, with many tipping him to make the step to managing one of Ghana’s national teams.
