Inflation falls to 13.3 percent in January

The inflation rate for January 2017 is 13.3 per cent, a drop from the 15.4 percent recorded in December 2016

Ghana’s inflation for January 2017 reduced to 13.3 percent.

This is a reduction from the 15.4 percent inflation rate recorded in December 2016.

The monthly change rate for January 2017 was 2.8 percent compared to the 0.9 percent recorded for December 2016.

The Food and non-alcoholic beverages group recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 7.0 percent. This is 2.7 percentage points lower than the rate recorded in December 2016.

Deputy Government Statistician Baah Wadieh addressing the media said four subgroups of the food and non-alcoholic beverages group recorded inflation rates higher than the group’s average rate of 7.0 percent.

He said the non-food group recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 16.6 percent in January 2017, compared to the 18.2 percent recorded for December 2016.

At the regional level, the year-on-year inflation rate ranged from 11.6 percent in the Volta to 14.0 percent in the Upper West region. Five regions (Upper West, Greater Accra, Ashanti, Western and Brong Ahafo) recorded inflation rates above the national average of 13.3 percent.
