Australia - heading to Melbourne after crushing the Windies by an innings and 212 runs in the first Test - have drafted in Victorian paceman Scott Boland as a replacement for Coulter-Nile, who has been hampered by calf and shoulder injuries this year.

"The Scorchers medical team confirmed that Nathan dislocated his right shoulder while fielding last night," Cricket Australia physiotherapist David Beakley said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Although the extent of the injury and rehabilitation period will not be fully known until we receive the results of scans later today, we can confirm that Nathan will not be available for the Boxing Day Test."

Coulter-Nile was included in the squad for the opening Test in Hobart but lost out to James Pattinson in the starting XI, while Boland was on standby at Bellerive Oval.
