South Africa spinner Dane Piedt will not play in the third Test against England in Johannesburg and batsman Rilee Rossouw has also been released from the squad.

Piedt took 3-38 on the final day of the drawn second Test at Newlands last week to raise hopes that the Proteas could force an unlikely win, having claimed his first five-wicket haul in the longest format of the game in the series-opener at Kingsmead.

However, with the Wanderers favouring pace bowlers, Piedt has been overlooked and will instead feature for Cape Cobras in their Sunfoil Series match against Warriors.

Rossouw's wait for a Test debut continues and the middle-order batsman will be looking to prove a point to the selectors when he plays for the Knights against Highveld Lions this week.

Hardus Viljoen looks set to make his debut in the third Test, which starts on Thursday, in a four-pronged pace attack for AB de Villiers' first game since replacing Hashim Amla as captain in the longest format.
