Darren Bravo: Australians are just human
West Indies batsman Darren Bravo said preparations have been thorough leading into the Boxing Day Test against Australia, claiming the hosts' are "just human".
Bravo, who will be playing his first Boxing Day Test, was one of few Windies players to show some fight in the opening match, producing a classy 108 in his first innings in Hobart as Australia won by an innings and 212 runs.
The left-handed batsman said a lack of confidence was the bigger issue, rather than conditions or preparation in the first-Test rout, particularly after defeat to Sri Lanka.
"When you're not scoring runs it's always hard to pick yourself back up and go back, but the guys have that resilience and we know how to score runs. We have scored international 100s already," Bravo told reporters on Tuesday.
"It's a matter of spending time out in the middle. It's important we give ourselves the opportunity to get in.
"The pitches are foreign to us, we don't play on pitches like this in the Caribbean but if you respect the good balls and put away the bad balls you're going to make runs.
"The Australian bowlers have a plan for exactly how they want to get us out yes, they are a good team, but at the end of the day they're still human so they will present bad balls and it's about putting them away."
Bravo said training had been good in the lead up to the second Test, despite the embarrassment of Jerome Taylor missing an easy catch in a drawn two-day tour match against an inexperienced Victoria XI due to facing the stands.
"We had a very good practice session today and obviously we went through all the facets of the game," Bravo said.
"I don't think the guys are relaxed. We're really pumped up. We want to put on a good show here and it's a very important game for us.
"[The Taylor incident] was just a mishap. I don't want to dwell on that too much, but the guys gave a good account in the practice match and it was important for the batsman to spend some time in the middle."
