Nana Addo orders release of GHC200m for veterans

President Akufo-Addo has asked the Defence ministry to release 200 million cedis for the welfare of members of the Veterans Association of Ghana.

Dominic Nitiwul said that the president has “tasked my ministry to release 200 million Cedis for you. So my ministry will release that 200 million Cedis for you.”

He said the president believed that the veterans had served the nation well and need to be taken care of by the state.

The wreath-laying ceremony in remembrance of the 69th anniversary of the 28th February shooting incident was held at the Nationalism Park in Accra.

The Ghana Police, armed forces, and other state security agencies participated in the commemorative ceremony to honour Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey.

On February 28, 1948, a number of ex-servicemen were marching from Accra to the Christianborg Castle to present a petition to the governor over their unpaid war benefits when they were intercepted at the crossroads by a contingent of armed policemen.

The shooting incident was today, Tuesday re-enacted in honour of the three servicemen.
