Looking much older? Ethiopian runner mocked for claiming she's 16-year-old

Social media users mocked Girmawit Gebrzihair, after images of her emerged online showing her participating in the 5,000m race at the World Under-20 Championships which are currently being held in Tampere, Finland.

A 16-year-old Ethiopian runner has been cruelly mocked by internet users who say she looks much older than her age

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) say she was born in November 2001, but internet users are disputing it, although none of them has provided evidence to prove her birth date is false.

Spanish athlete Oscar Husillos even compared her with “a grandmother” mocking that Gebrzihair must have been supported by her grandchildren in the stands.

“Her children/grandchildren in the stands are watching her competing at the U20 World Cup,” wrote Husillos, a Spanish sprinter who specializes in the 200 and 400 meter events.
