Djokovic overcame a wasteful Dominic Thiem in straight-sets at the ATP 1000 event on Tuesday, with the Austrian failing to convert his chances.

Berdych was pushed but got past Richard Gasquet, while Nishikori rolled through on a good day for the favourites.

Nick Kyrgios' strong and dangerous run continued as Grigor Dimitrov, fresh from beating Andy Murray, was eliminated. DJOKOVIC SURVIVES TOUGH CLASH

World number one and two-time defending champion Djokovic is the man to beat, and he was too good for Thiem in a 6-3 6-4 victory.

However, it took him one hour, 50 minutes to advance, while Thiem converted just one of 15 break points.

Berdych was also tested before sending down 12 aces in a 6-4 3-6 7-5 victory over French 10th seed Gasquet.

Nishikori found progression far more straightforward, easing past Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2 6-4 for a fourth win in as many meetings with the Spaniard. FOUR SEEDS DEPART

That meant four seeds fell on Tuesday, but all against players ranked higher than them.

Gasquet, Thiem and Bautista Agut joined Dimitrov, who went down to Gael Monfils 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-3. KYRGIOS, SIMON REACH LAST EIGHT

With his win, Kyrgios reached the quarter-finals at an ATP 1000 event for the first time.

Gilles Simon lost just 10 points in the first set of his 6-0 6-1 thrashing of French countryman Lucas Pouille.

David Goffin dropped just eight points on serve as he beat Horacio Zeballos 7-5 6-3, ending the Argentine lucky loser's dream run.

Milos Raonic sent down 11 aces in his 6-0 6-3 thrashing of Damir Dzumhur in just 54 minutes. DJOKOVIC PRAISES THIEM

"He has very powerful strokes from the back of the court, so he either makes some really amazing shots, down the line mostly, and some great inside out forehands, or he makes a mistake," Djokovic said. "It was a straight-set win, but far from easy." BERDYCH AWAITS FOR WORLD NUMBER ONE

The clash between Djokovic and Berdych will be the one to watch, while Goffin and Simon also do battle in the top half of the draw.
