Donaldson lifts Jays, Red Sox beaten in MLB

Donaldson hit his third career grand slam as part of his five RBIs as the Blue Jays crushed the Phillies 11-3 on Tuesday.

David Price enjoyed a good start for the Red Sox, but his team suffered a 3-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Cubs edged the Washington Nationals 4-3, the St Louis Cardinals suffered a 5-2 loss to the Houston Astros and the Cincinnati Reds made a fast start in a 3-1 victory against the Atlanta Braves.

At Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies hit their way past the New York Yankees 13-10, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-4 and the Los Angeles Angels held on for a 5-4 win over the Minnesota Twins.

The Pittsburgh Pirates shut out the New York Mets 4-0, while the Tampa Bay Rays rallied past the Seattle Mariners 8-7.

In the American League Central, defending World Series champions the Kansas City Royals pulled within half a game of division leaders the Cleveland Indians - winning their meeting 3-2.

The Detroit Tigers are one-and-a-half games back on the Indians after an 11-8 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

Elsewhere, the Miami Marlins were 5-2 winners against the San Diego Padres, the Texas Rangers beat the Oakland Athletics 10-6 and the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants overcame the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2. DONALDSON SMASHES PHILLIES

The All-Star third baseman was a one-man wrecking crew. The reigning American League MVP went three-for-four with a double to go with his third-inning grand slam. MATHIS ALSO HITS GRAND SLAM

Donaldson had the first of two grand slams on Tuesday, with Miami's Jeff Mathis also hitting one in San Diego.

PRICE UNLUCKY FOR RED SOX

Price was a hard-luck loser for the Red Sox. He struck out 11 batters, without a walk, over eight innings while allowing just three runs off five hits. But it was not enough to beat the Orioles, who were boosted by seven strikeouts over seven innings by Chris Tillman. Price joins Pedro Martinez, Tim Wakefield and Rick Porcello as the only Red Sox starters over the last 15 years to take a loss with at least 10 strikeouts in eight-plus innings. Wednesday sees the Cubs and the Nationals face off again in a premier pitching matchup.The Cubs will send Jason Hammel (7-2, 2.36 ERA) to the mound while trying to hand Washington's Stephen Strasburg (10-0, 3.03) his first loss of the season.
