Most of the vendors at the ceremony sold paraphernalia of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The traders are into selling T-shirts, scarves, wrist watches, headgear, key holders, umbrellas, calendars, handkerchiefs, belts, clothes, necklaces and beads branded in NDC’s colours and symbols of President John Dramani Mahama’s portrait.

A vendor called Eric Oteng said he came very early in the morning to set up. He seemed to be operating a family business since his wife and daughter were also present to help.

The two ladies walked in the crowd with the items while Oteng was stationed by the items at a place he described as ‘strategic’

Another person who cashed in on the inauguration is a khebab seller called Abu. He said even though he did not come early, “because most people want to eat something they come to me and but meat or sausage, I sold all my meat and went home for more.”

Asked whether he was hopeful his commodity will finish before the day ends, he said “I am very hopeful, God on my side these things will finish.”

One other group of people who cashed in were the pure water sellers who carried their sachet water in bowls and walked through the crowd.
