EC rejects IPP's parliamentary filing fees

The Independent Peoples Party decided to come with the physical cash for its parliamentary hopefuls. However, it presented a banker’s draft got the presidential fee.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has refused to accept the parliamentary filing fees of the Independent People’s Party.

According to Accra-based Starr FM the EC rejected the money because the IPP did not comply with the directive on how to present the filing fees.

The EC in a statement earlier asked that all political nominees submit a banker’s draft which will cover their filing fee.

“All nominated candidates for the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections are hereby advised to submit the banker’s draft in respect of their filing fees to the Electoral Commission not later than 12:00 noon on Monday, October 10, 2016,” a statement signed by the EC’s Head of Communications, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu noted.

But the IPP decided to come with the physical cash for its parliamentary hopefuls. However, it presented a banker’s draft got the presidential fee.

It is reported that flag bearer of the party Kofi Akpaloo is unhappy over this development and has threatened a legal action against the EC.

Meanwhile, fifteen out of seventeen presidential nominees on Monday, October 10, submitted their filing fees to the EC to enable them to participate in the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
