Parliament today (Wednesday, October 26) passed the Presidential Transition Bill.

The Presidential Transition bill seeks to amend the Presidential (Transition) Act 2012 (Act 845) to address the flaws in the Act.

The former Electoral Commission Chairman Dr Kwadjo Afari Gyan during his tenure called for a proper Presidential process to ensure a smooth handing over. He argued that this will prevent the acrimony that characterises a transition to a party other than the then governing party.

In 2001, the transition process was characterised by rancour and acrimony between the outgoing NDC administration and the incoming NPP administration.

In a related development, the then governing NPP pulled out of the transition process. They accused the NDC of behaving in an unacceptable manner during the process.
