Presidential hopefuls given personal police guards
The Inspector General of Police has indicated that sixty police guards have been allocated to presidential candidates and their running mates ahead of the general elections.
“Providing protection for this kind of personalities entails a great deal of trust, so we met the candidates and asked them to choose any of our men that they want to guard them, some of them presented a list of their preferred officers, but others left that decision to us,” the IGP said during a courtesy call on the regional minister, Helen Ntoso as part of his 3-day working visit to the region.
He said the Police Service will also make available female guards for female presidential candidates who may require personal security.
The security arrangement follows the controversy which surrounded the three ex-South African police officers who were brought in by the NPP to train the security detail of the flagbearer of the party.
The three were subsequently deported after they were arrested by the BNI and charged with conspiracy to commit crime and unlawful training.
