Jos Buttler was described as "world class" by England limited overs captain Eoin Morgan after his unbeaten 73 secured victory in the Twenty20 with Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

The wicketkeeper batsman was handed a chance at the top of the order in Southampton in Alex Hales' absence, and he wasted no time asserting his credentials to remain there.

Chasing 140 to win, Buttler dominated the Sri Lankan bowling to record his highest score in the shortest format of the game - his knock including three fours and four massive sixes.

Buttler was named man of the match for his display, something Morgan - who was unbeaten on 47 at the end - wholeheartedly agreed with.

"Jos is world class, his attitude sums him up, he is a team player," he told Sky Sports.

"Things are very exciting at the moment and playing for England is awesome.

"We are playing an aggressive brand of cricket which everybody loves and it puts a smile on your face."

England's display in the field particularly impressed Morgan as they stifled the Sri Lankan batsmanĀ and showed superb accuracy with two run outs.

Morgan added: "Everything since the first game has got better, tonight our fielding peaked.

"We were hitting the stumps for fun, that was a huge positive. Our mantra going forward is that we do have athletes in the field so we must utilise them as much as we can."
