England forward Dave Attwood has been ruled out of the Six Nations after undergoing neck surgery.

The Bath star has been struggling with neck problems this season and a club spokesperson confirmed to Omnisport that the lock went under the knife to treat a bulging disc and trapped nerve.

Attwood is now set to miss between 10 and 12 weeks of action, ruling him out of contention when new head coach Eddie Jones comes to name his squad for the Six Nations, which kick off on February 6.

It marks a further blow for Attwood's international career after he was omitted from England's Rugby World Cup squad despite making Stuart Lancaster's original training party.

Attwood has played 22 times for his country, most recently in a World Cup warm-up match against France in August.
