A video of former President J.J Rawlings snubbing the incoming Member of Parliament of Ablekuma South, Oko Vanderpuije went viral on social media.

An aide to the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly has described as unfortunate the reaction by former president Rawlings when Oko Vanderpuije tried to start a conversation with him on their way to Parliament House.

Dr Philip Lamptey, said in an interview on Accra-based Class FM said “it is unfortunate. What happened was unfortunate. I am not sure anybody in the party will be happy unless somebody who is not prepared to support the party to come back to power.”

Rawlings was attending Thursday's State of the Nation address delivered by President John Mahama in Parliament with his entourage when the incident took place.

In the video, a very stern-faced Rawlings is seen taking a swipe at the mayor as the latter tries to spark a conversation with him as they climb the stairs of parliament.

Rawlings stops and gestures him to move aside whiles he continues to parliament house. Mr. Vanderpuije then moves back and greets some colleagues.

Former president Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, a founding father of the NDC at the 35th anniversary of 31st December Revolution blasted the top hierarchy in the National Democratic Congress for its abysmal performance in the 2016 election.

He accused the party of corruption at its top rank and arrogance amongst appointees.
