F1: Mercedes will not appeal Nico Rosberg penalty

Mercedes will not appeal the penalty imposed on Nico Rosberg by stewards at the British Grand Prix but claim they intend to continue opposing 'over-regulation' in Formula One.

The German dropped from second position to third at Silverstone, having been hit with a 10-second time penalty after being deemed to have received illegal assistance via team radio.

Championship leader Rosberg finished behind team-mate Lewis Hamilton on Sunday, holding off Max Verstappen's Red Bull despite experiencing gearbox problems in the latter stages.

He received instructions from Mercedes to help combat the issue, but race stewards ruled the team contravened F1 regulations in doing so.

Rosberg's lead over Hamilton in the drivers' standings was initially cut to four points, but his demotion to third position means he now holds just a one-point advantage.

Mercedes initially served notice of their intention to appeal the ruling, but on Monday they revealed no direct challenge will be forthcoming.

"The team accepts the stewards' interpretation of the regulation, their decision and the associated penalty," a statement read.

"During the coming weeks, we will continue discussions with the relevant F1 stakeholders on the subject of the perceived over-regulation of the sport."

The next event on the F1 calendar is the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest from July 22-24.
