Presidential election to still hold amid bribe scandal

The Federation of International Football Association, FIFA, have revealed their intentions to go ahead with the Friday, May 29 presidential election despite the corruption scandal currently rocking the world's football governing body.

In a press conference earlier today, FIFA Director of Communication, Walter De Gregorio relayed the intention of the association to go ahead with the election.

"There was never such an idea to postpone the congress nor the election," De Gregorio said.

A criminal investigation has according to report, been launched into the naming of the hosting rights  for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

De Gregorio while facing the world media also revealed the results of the investigations will not change FIFA plans for the World Cups. that the World Cups.

"The World Cups 2018 and 2022 will be played in Russia and Qatar,' he said.

The seven officials arrested at the swanky Baur au Lac hotel are in detention pending extradition to the United States.

Jeffrey Webb - a FIFA vice-president -  Eduardo Li, Julio Rocha, Costas Takkas, Eugenio Figueredo, Rafael Esquivel and Jose Maria Marin were arrested after the US Department of Justice issued a 47-count indictment charging 14 defendants with racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies.

Electronic data and and bank document were seized from the FIFA's headquarters during the raid.
