Tea seller jailed 20 years for anal sex

A 21-year-old tea seller who sodomised a 13-year-old boy and gave him GH₡ 5.00 after the act was on Tuesday sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court.

Eric Dodoo aka Nii Otto was charged with defilement and having unnatural carnal knowledge of a child under 16 years, pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyemang Budu convicted Dodoo on his own plea.

Prosecuting Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the Court that Mr. Owusu Boateng a 43- year- old trader residing at James Town and the father of the victim is the complainant. Detective Inspector Atimbire said the victim is a junior high school student.

He said during early part of the year, Dodoo met the victim and told him that he would like him to become his friend and the victim agreed.

As a result of the friendship, Dodoo showed the victim his house and told him that he should be visiting him regularly.

The Prosecutor said since then, anytime the victim visited Dodoo, he had sexual intercourse with him through the anus and offered him GH₡5.00 afterwards.

On March 12, at about 1900 hours, Dodoo had anal sex with the victim. Five days after, prosecution said the victim went to Dodoo‘s house and returned very late. When he was questioned as to why he was late, he narrated his ordeal to the complainant.

The complainant reported the matter to the Police at James Town and Dodoo was picked up.

Later, the matter was referred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, Accra and the victim was asked to visit the hospital for examination and treatment as well as report to the Police.

Prosecution said Dodoo in his caution statement admitted having sex with the victim.
