Froome happy to support Thomas at Olympic Games
Chris Froome is prepared to sacrifice his own chances of Olympic gold in Rio should Great Britain team-mate Geraint Thomas be better placed for glory.
The Team Sky duo have worked together for nearly a decade on the road, with Thomas being one of Froome's trusty lieutenants during last year's Tour de France success.
Thomas is expected to fulfil a similar role during the Olympic road race in Brazil later this year, but Froome would be happy for their roles to be reversed.
"I'd be happy playing a role if it meant we could have an Olympic champion," Froome told BBC Sport. "Anyone who watched the Tour last year could see what 'G' [Thomas] is capable of.
"At the Olympics it will be a very honest, open discussion between us, out on the road. Who's feeling good? Can we get the job done today? Will you pull? Will you not pull?
"It's that team dynamic. As long as communication is good I think you'll have that buy-in from everyone.
"If G is flying and I'm struggling, then definitely [I'd support him]."
